The self-propelled Ranger 53 lawnmower is the biggest petrol rotary machine from Hayter. With a wide 53cm cutting width the Ranger 53 can deal with large sized lawns with ease.
The Hayter Ranger 53 provides an excellent cut with its powerful 5hp Briggs & Stratton Quantum XTS petrol engine. In addition, the autodrive system reduces the effort required by the operator to get the job done. four mowing speeds are selectable for easy control, between 1.8 and 2.6 mph.
The comfortable handlebars are adjustable to accommodate both tall and short operators. The power switch on the Hayter Ranger 53 features 'operator presence control'. As soon as the switch is released, power is cut to the engine, giving you the peace of mind that the Ranger 53 is one of the safest lawnmowers on the market.
The height of cut is changeable, nine lengths are available between 2.5cm and 7.5cm. The Ranger 53 includes a single sprung lever for easy changing of the height.
Durability and robustness is what you'd expect from the Hayter brand, the Ranger 53 certainly doesn't disappoint. Featuring an aluminium deck for extended life and less corrosion. In addition, the Ranger 53 has an integrated cutterbar friction disc, which can protect the engine crankshaft from bending if you should accidentally hit a solid object.
Front fins are incorporated on front deck, which noticeably improve the quality of cut and collection on the Ranger 53.
The large 60 litre grass bag reduced emptying trips, and is easy to remove through the handles.

The 1.5 litre fuel tank ensures The Hayter Ranger 53 doesn't require a refuel when tackling most medium and large sized lawns. Note, no rear roller is fitted to the Ranger models, so a striped effect cannot be achieved.

While in many respects this is a good powerful mower, I have had endless problems with the self drive. It packed up after a couple of years - I had it repaired at considerable trouble and expense as the drive belts were hard to get - wherupon it packed up again 1 month out of repair warrants. Grass seems to force its way into the drive mechanism and wreck the belts. It is a heavy mower to use as a push!
