RP Score Explained
The Relative Performance Score (RP
Score) gives an indication of the lawnmower performance (in terms of
weight, grass box capacity, cutting width, and engine/motor power) when
compared against other lawnmowers in the same class.
It is given as a percentage value, and is calculated by averaging the
normalised values of each performance measure:
(weight + grass box capacity + cutting width + power) / 4
The RP Score can be compared to the price of the lawnmower, to give an
idea of 'value for money'. For example, a high RP Score and a low price
tag,
indicates excellent value for money.
Remember, A low RP Score is not necessarily bad, if the price is also
relatively low (Just less performance for less money, which is to be
expected).
RP Scores cannot be compared between different lawnmower classes (i.e.
electric rotary: Rotak 34 vs petrol cylinder: Atco Balmoral 14SK) as it
is calculated relative to a particular class.
It should be emphasised that the RP Score only takes into account
weight, grass box capacity, cutting width and engine/motor power. It
does not consider the build quality, or any additional features
(folding handles, anti-vibration handles, cable length, height
adjustment, number of cutting blades, noise reduction, motor
efficiency, Quick-Exchange (QX) systems, self-cleaning systems, ease of
use, cordless (battery) use, etc.), therefore it should only be used as
a guide. Please read the details on each lawnmower for a better
understanding of its performance.
